hearing repair imageLife happens! If your hearing aid stops working completely or if the sound doesn’t seem right, call Atlantic Audiology. We will help you troubleshoot the problem over the phone. If simple troubleshooting doesn’t fix the problem, then you can bring your devices in for inspection and repair. Most simple hearing aid repairs can be performed in the office while you wait. If your hearing aids must be returned to the manufacturer for repair, we will take care of that for you too.

Hearing aid warranties

When you buy your hearing aids from Atlantic Audiology you are covered by a two-or three-year warranty from the manufacturer. If you aren’t sure about your warranty, just give us a call, and we will check for you. In addition to the original manufacturer’s warranty, extended warranties are available, as well.

If your hearing aid repair is not covered under warranty, we will give you an estimate of the cost before starting any repairs. With Atlantic Audiology, you’ll never be surprised by a repair bill.

Simple hearing aid troubleshooting tips

If your hearing aid seems dead, make sure it is actually turned on. If it is on, next check that it is not accidentally on the telecoil or “t” setting. Install new batteries and make sure the battery door closes fully.

If the device turns on and the volume is good, but the sound is distorted, the batteries might be dying. The signal strength is affected by battery power. Replace the batteries and close the battery door firmly.

Whistling and feedback are caused by a poor fit. This is usually the result of excess wax either in your ears or on your hearing aids. Clean both. If you still have feedback or whistling, call Atlantic Audiology. We can clean your ears and your hearing aids and check the fit as well.

What to do if your hearing aids get wet

Most hearing aids are water resistant but not waterproof. If your hearing aids get wet, act quickly. Turn off the hearing aid off and take out the battery. Try one of these methods to dry your hearing aids.
Use a fan or a hairdryer on the low or no heat setting. Never expose your hearing aids to heat.

Open the battery door and place the hearing in a bowl with dry, uncooked white rice overnight. The rice absorbs moisture, and this may be enough to dry the device out.

Set the hearing aids on a clean newspaper under a lamp and let air dry. The newsprint absorbs moisture, and the lamp supplies a very small amount of heat. This method can take up to 24 hours, so be patient.

If you have a hearing aid dryer or dehumidifier, place the hearing aids in the box and let them dry overnight.

Once the hearing aid is dry, install new batteries and close the door firmly. If the hearing aid doesn’t turn on, call Atlantic Audiology.
